Israeli journalist in Syria

September 26th, 2007 · 6 Comments

First two Israeli journalists sneak into Lebanon, and now this. Israeli pundit and security commentator for Yediot Ahranot (and a Lt. Col. in the paratrooper reserves) Ron Ben Yishai has made it out to Deir al Zur in eastern Syria to hunt for the site of the Israeli air strike earlier this month. The full report will be in tomorrow’s Yediot.

    Zey?

How did he get in — does he have another nationality?

Ron Ben Yishai was also the first Israeli journalist to get into Iraq, if I recall correctly.

I can only assume he must have a second passport. Ben Yishai apparently has a history of boldly going where few Israelis dare to go. I’ve heard he was in Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion, in Iraq during Desert Storm and again during the second Gulf War.

So where’s the promised report? Is it available in Hebrew only or have the Israeli military censors done their thing again?

I was mistaken. The Yediot article is in today’s paper, not yesterday’s.

Funny, no- one is accusing Ron of endangering Syrian lives or making the lives of foreign reporters in Syria more difficult.

And yes, he does have a foreign passport.
