Enemy buddy bears in Jerusalem

August 30th, 2007 · 15 Comments

I wonder if the Lebanese or the Syrians for that matter know they’ve sent buddy bears to Israel, where they’re on display in Midan Safra in front of the Jerusalem municipality.

The Syrians have sent a buddy bear also.

Its a german idea [I sometimes love that country, too]. And I REALLY love Iris Berben, especially if shes wearing a red costume, aspirating with her sexy voice the worldshaking words: “Like the bears we have to outstretch our hand and take other’s outstretched hands in ours.”

“It is a pleasure, a moral obligation and an enormous privilege…”
Moral obligation, eh? It is my ethical imperative to deliver you stupid bears! hehe

I felt in love with Iris Berben in 1980. She was the one that intro…er…

CR, watch your words the next time! Be a sensitive United Buddy Bear, next time! :-)

PS: The bear is the symbol of the City of Berlin and the idea is not stupid. [Yes, it is stupid, but because … Iris Berben is behind that idea its a GREAT IDEA!]

Which dirty word? Moral obligation or ethical imperative? Hey, I’m from Chicago. I love the Bears! ; )

19 to 9, Bears up against Cleveland in the 3rd Quarter

I have seen them playing in New Orleans for the first time in 94. And they won. That was a party.

And now, CR, get serious. Well known-artists are behind that action. The politcal message is great and if you had the chance to visit Jerusalem for free, you would hold a speech in front of funny bears, too.

OK. Serious. How about holding an auction on each of the bears, and splitting the proceeds between the Holocaust survivors who are being stiffed by Olmert, and the other half gets sent to Gazans who depended on the charities that Mahmoud Pinochet has just shut down. Sound like a deal?

forget it, its all going to UNICEF et. al.

They (not the lady in the red dress, just “they…”) actually did the exact same thing here in Chicago with a bunch of silly cow statues a few years back. But I think most of the proceeds stayed local. The year after the cows, the city gave Disney free ad space by lining State Street with a phalynx of Mickey Mouse statues. And I bet those proceeds went to Mayor Daley’s campaign coffers.

You think the Israeli buddy bear would be exposed in syria and lebanon as well?

  • 11 Shual // Aug 31, 2007 at 12:44 pm

CR, “Sound like a deal” - Hm. No. Money for children with funny bears = OK. Funny Bears and Holocaust? No. The idea derives from a stream of initiatives that work against xenophobia in germany. They wanted to do something against the local problems. Nobody thougth that the story could reach that dimension [of millions of visitors worldwide.] But correct: There are some initiatives with sense [like sending young german to Israel to work in nursing homes with holocaust victims], but not enough. I don’t know, but the german “market of private humanitarian aid + money from the economy” is worth several dozens of billions € and I don’t want to judge about questions Angola children vs holocaust victims. Private money - Private decision.

Tsedek, they were at Istanbul and Kairo, now Jerusalem… their tactic is to surround and isolate the Syrians and then one day…..

    :D

    ja, richtig!

having an israeli woman in lebanon not knowing she was israeli was already too much for some - ‘yo :D

in this respect iran is way more tolerant, funnily enough. i know from an iranian woman that iranian jews are allowed to visit their family in israel….

which makes me wonder, will they arrive in iran too, those buddy bears? is there an iranian buddy bear amongst the ones showed in israel now?

“is there an iranian buddy bear amongst the ones showed in israel now?” YES!

After a great discussion over years in Berlin, the new Israeli “Buddy Bear” [I don’t know why they had to exchange the old one.] is now located peaceful between Iraq and Iran. The Israeli one is the one I showed in the picture of Iris Berben.

They ended the conflict between the two bears of Israel and Iran with a simple technique: They told all bears that in the back some hidden snipers would shoot them if they will not behave friendly. And those stupid bears still belive: http://www.united-buddy-bears.com/uont2007/showpics/339/1079739932.jpg

In a silent nigth, you can hear them cry: “No, No, don’t shoot at me.”

violently forced to be peaceful…. wow, that’s a great concept :D

    Ironic,

But a nice Lebanese design nonetheless… On another note, why would a “buddy bear” have the appearance of a grizzly ready to pounce?
